There’s no doubt about it that face wash is probably where most of our routines started. The honorary first zit of the dreamy teenage years was earned, and while on the inside we were thrilled about finally welcoming puberty, we also launched ourselves into finding the best cure for our newly bubbling faces. The first beauty lesson to be learnt was that one must not use soap on one’s face. So here is a list of the gentlest, non-abrasive face washes that not only leave your skin clean, but also feeling fresh (and unlike a chalkboard.)
1. Himalaya Neem Facewash
For: Oily, Acne Prone Skin
Ah, the holy grail of the acne world. Almost all of us have reached out for this cult favourite face wash during testing times. It is deep cleansing, antibacterial, and perfect for getting all the gunk and pollution off of you, without being extremely drying on the face. I’ve seen almost every desi girl, in India or across the border, even a few Russian bloggers rave about this gem. Buy here.
2. Neutrogena Deep Clean
For – Normal to Oily Skin
The most no nonsense of the lot – it deep cleans as it promises, it is best for normal to oily skin it states – but my dry skin takes quite well to this. I also noticed that it prevents break-outs and pimples from coming up, and also improves skin texture. A win-win! Get one here.
3. Fabindia Tea Tree Face Cleanser
For – Combination or Oily Skin
This was an accidental find – but I am so glad I found it. Because it contains tea tree extracts, it controls sebum production and therefore prevents acne. A good budget face wash in my opinion, for all skin types. Buy here.
4. Jovees Papaya Face Wash
For – Acne, blackhead, whitehead prone skin with uneven texture or pigmentation
Some four years back, I’d read that papaya is just the right amount of acidic which makes it an excellent gentle exfoliator. I, a completely normal, jobless person, who was just strolling the markets aimlessly, was sold this by an eager sales girl at a random shop in Central Market, Lajpat Nagar, and decided to give it a try. I was so impressed, that it has since then kept making regular appearances in my regime. It contains soft orange beads of I don’t know what (no mention made on the pack too,) to exfoliate minus abrasion. Do give it a try if you want a more even toned skin tone, and mild gentle exfoliation. Buy here.
5. Biotique Bio Papaya Face Cleanser
For – Acne, Blackhead, Whitehead Prone Skin with uneven texture or pigmentation, Aging Skin
Of the same league as the Jovees Papaya Face Wash, this too contains soft, tiny exfoliating beads and is a great gentle exfoliator. Exfoliation is the stepping stone to anti-aging skincare. Picked it up as a replacement when the supermarket near my house didn’t stock Jovees. Was not disappointed. Get one for yourself here.
6. Avene Cleanance Gel
For – Oily or/and Acne Prone Skin, Dry and Sensitive Skin
I wouldn’t call it the gentlest out of this list, but it is so good for those with oily skin woes. A bit pricey, but you do get a big bottle – this is gentle, but would be a bit drying on dry skin types. But otherwise a value-for-money, and a face wash with a following that you can get from here.
7. Bioderma Sebium Gel Moussant
For – All Skin Types, Sensitive Skin that is Oily
Formulated for sensitive skin, Bioderma Sebium is great for those suffering from acne caused by excessive production of sebum. It controls oil production but does not harm your skin barrier, which is great, because it just means that it is non drying, doesn’t strip your natural oils, and holds back acne while keeping your skin supple.
